Jean-Baptiste Tavernier had observed the magician fakirs, has gone around the Persian royal court and the Great Moghul imperial court, has seen the construction of the Taj Mahal, then has sold the famous Blue Diamond to Louis XIV. This is the astonishing testimony of this great traveler of the 17th century. With 40 years of journey, he traveled through 240’000 kilometers before buying the land of Aubonne where he wrote his memoirs. The Swiss director Philippe Nicolet decided to republished them (Éditions Favre) and to make a movie of them, starring Jean-Pierre Althaus as Tavernier and Louis de Bourbon Parme as his own ancestor, the Sun King.
